Frequently asked questions
Short answers to the questions that come up most often.
Do I need to know how to code?
No. You describe what you want in plain language, and the builder writes the code. Knowing a little helps when you want to fine-tune something.
Is this another vibe-coding tool?
No. Automo is AI-assisted engineering: builds run through Automated QA, Security scanning and Guardrails before they ship, with an audit trail behind every merge and human review on serious changes.
What do I actually own?
The code. Automo generates standard React, TypeScript and Tailwind, with no proprietary runtime. You can export the full repository to your own GitHub at any time.
Can Automo work with our existing codebase?
Yes, through Custom sandboxes for Rails, Java, Go, Python, Node and multi-process backends.
Where does our data live?
By default in your choice of US, EU or APAC regions. Private VPC and on-prem options exist for organisations that need them. See Deploy anywhere.
How much does it cost?
See the Pricing page for current plans. Individual builders can start with credits.
What happens if I run out of credits?
Building pauses until you have more. See How credits work.
Can several people work on the same project?
Yes. Invite them to the workspace with a role, then agree who is driving each area of work. See Inviting your team.
Can I use my own domain?
Yes. Add the domain and create the DNS records you are given. See Custom domains.
Can I edit the code by hand?
Yes. See Editing files directly.
How do I undo a change?
Say "undo that" for the last change, or go back to an earlier version. See Versions and restore.
Does restoring a version restore my data?
No. Versions cover code and structure. Database records, uploaded files and sent emails are not rolled back. Back up before destructive changes to live data.
Why does the preview look different from the live app?
Usually because there are unpublished changes. Publish if the preview is what you want.
Is there an API?
You can build endpoints inside a project for other systems to call, and connect webhooks for events. See Connecting other tools.
What if something is broken right now?
Check the status page first. If everything is operational, ask in the chat, or use Doctor for problems on the live app. See also Troubleshooting.
How do I get help from a person?
Contact your workspace owner for access and billing questions. For anything else, contact Automo with the project name and what you expected to happen.
