Sharing a project

Preview and live, and which one to show to whom.

There is a right thing to show every audience. Showing the wrong one either exposes work in progress or confuses the person you are trying to convince.

Preview and live

  • Preview is the current state of the project. It changes constantly and is meant for the people building it.
  • Live is the published app on its address. It is stable, and it is what customers use.

Showing work to someone outside the workspace

The safest options are to show the preview yourself, on a call or in person, or to give the person a limited role in the workspace. If you need to share a link to the live app, publish first and share the live address.

Showing work in progress

When you are presenting, say which one is on screen: "this is the preview, it changes every few minutes" saves confusion.

Publishing is a separate decision

Editing a project does not change the live app. It changes when you publish. See Publishing your app.

Links in chat apps are often expanded into previews. Make sure your title, description and preview image are set before you paste a link anywhere public.

Next: Feedback and approvals.
