# Connecting GitHub

> Keep a copy of your code in your own repository.

You own 100% of the code Automo builds, and you can export the full repository to your own GitHub at any time.

## Why connect it

- **Ownership:** an independent copy of the code, in a place your team already trusts.
- **History:** commits alongside your other repositories.
- **Review:** pull requests and code review for teams that work that way.
- **Continuity:** the code stays readable and runnable with standard tools, whatever happens next.

## Connecting

Ask in the chat to connect the project to GitHub, or look for the GitHub option in the project's settings, then authorise access and choose where the repository should live.

## What gets synced

The project's code and configuration. Your app's data lives in the database, not in the repository.

## Working in more than one place

If you change the code both in Automo Build and somewhere else, coordinate who works where. For anything substantial, pick one home and stick to it.

## Handing over a project

A repository is the cleanest handover: the receiving team gets the full code and can run it with standard tools. Include a short note in the README about the domain and the connected services.
